ABOUT JAZZ REPUBLIC RADIO

Anything goes with Jazz, anytime.

Jazz Republic Radio is the personal jazz universe of Nigel John "Nigel J." Farmer, an award-winning jazz broadcaster, audio producer, editor and composer.

What began as a 24/7 internet radio station broadcasting from "a little hill in the south of France" has evolved into a modern, on-demand listening portal, bringing hand-picked jazz, blues, Motown, funk, soul and original music together in one place.

From Viral Web Radio to Version 2

Jazz Republic Radio first launched on April 26, 2015 as a live web radio station, streaming to a growing international audience with an eclectic, human-curated sound. The station quickly attracted attention:

  • Awarded "Best New Jazz Web Radio" at the "Salon de la radio show in Paris - 2015".

  • Featured in the French industry publication La Lettre Pro de la Radio et du Podcast.

  • Showcased new independent jazz artists with regular airplay, social media promotion and direct links for listeners to support the artists financially.

  • The October 2015 statistics from the Radionomy platform showed that Jazz Republic Radio was heard globally in 71 countries, achieving an average of over 200 hours per day over the last 30 days.

The original live stream ran on the Radionomy platform. When Radionomy later shut down its streaming services following licensing and legal changes, Jazz Republic Radio disappeared from the dial along with many other independent stations.

Encouraged and inspired by his Canadian stepdaughter, Nigel has brought Jazz Republic Radio back (Dec 2025) in a new form as JazzRepublicRadio.eu. Version 2 of JRR is a modern, digital, one-stop shop for busy people on the go who still want easy access to quality jazz and soulful sounds:

  • Every playlist is hand-curated.

  • Every mood has its own soundtrack.

  • Anything goes with jazz, anytime.

What You Will Find Here

Jazz Republic Radio now lives as a playlist-driven jazz portal under the creative umbrella of Meditating Astronaut Music.

Each playlist is designed to feel like a carefully prepared set in an intimate club:

  • Vocals
A century of jazz voices in one place. Billie, Ella, Sinatra and Nat King Cole meet Diana Krall, Kurt Elling and today's modern greats. Intimate ballads, swinging standards and soulful storytelling.

  • Nostalgia
Timeless jazz for lovers of the classics. Evergreen standards, smoky ballads and swing-era favourites, where the heart of jazz lives and breathes.

  • Piano Trio
A journey through the art of the jazz trio, from Evans, Peterson, Monk and Jamal to Petrucciani, Glasper, Hiromi and beyond. Intimate, swinging and searching.

  • My Originals – Nigel John Farmer
Nigel's own jazz compositions and lyrics, from reflective ballads to vibrant instrumentals. This is the most direct route into his creative inner world.

This site is the one portal where all of this comes together. It is a listening room, a personal archive and a growing musical diary, designed to be easy to use for busy people who still want real jazz in their day.

Supporting Independent Artists

From its early days, Jazz Republic Radio has believed in the importance of new voices in jazz and related styles. The landscape for independent artists has changed, but the desire to give them space has not.

Looking ahead, the planned "Discovery" playlist will highlight selected independent and emerging artists, giving listeners a simple way to explore new sounds, and artists a chance to sit alongside the established names on the station.

Supporting the next generation of jazz and creative music remains part of the Jazz Republic Radio ethos, even as the ways of doing that continue to evolve.

The Person Behind the Playlists – Nigel John "Nigel J." Farmer

Jazz Republic Radio is part of a wider body of work that reflects Nigel's deep involvement in jazz and creative music.

  • Co-owner and Editor-in-Chief, JazzInEurope (5 years)
Nigel helped to shape one of Europe's key online jazz platforms and published magazine, providing editorial direction to 30 contributors, commissioning and editing features, reviews and interviews across the European and international jazz scene.

  • Broadcasting and Network Creation – JazzTalkNews
Nigel evolved the radio concept into JazzTalkNews (JazzTalk.News), a podcast-driven platform described as "a vital conduit for jazz in Europe and beyond", and home to several jazz-focused programmes.

  • Podcast Production – The Groove Coast and Music Matters Podcast
Nigel worked as the production person for The Groove Coast Podcast and the Las Vegas based Music Matters Podcast (rated in the top 10 in its category on Apple Music Podcasts). His work included:

    • Full audio post-production.

    • Custom jingles and show themes, tailored to each programme.

    • Voice-overs for intros, bumpers and promotional spots.

  • JazzTribe / JazzTribe.Network and MusicTribesUnite
Conceptual brands centred on the idea of music as a global "tribe", a borderless, ever-expanding community of listeners and artists connected through jazz and creative music.

  • Meditating Astronaut Music and "My Lyrics Unlocked"
“My Lyrics Unlocked,” a Spotify podcast, enlists a male and a female host who are given Nigel’s lyrics and a comprehensive one‑sheet for each track, outlining the inspiration, tools, and compositional methods behind its creation. The hosts then freely discuss and critique the material, unpacking the songs, the backstories, and the meaning behind the lyrics from both their own perspective and the one‑sheet.

Why It Matters For You As A Listener

When you press play on a Jazz Republic Radio playlist, you are not listening to an algorithm. You are stepping into:

  • The ears of a broadcaster who built an award-winning jazz station from scratch.

  • The judgement of an editor who has helped to shape jazz coverage across Europe and Beyond.

  • The instincts of a producer who makes podcasts sound warm, polished and human.

  • The perspective of a songwriter who lives inside the music, not just around it.

Jazz Republic Radio is where all of that experience meets you, one track at a time ~ Anything goes with jazz, anytime, and you are invited in.
